Origin of variable intake technology

Automobile engine in the actual operation is mostly in the medium and low speed partial load, therefore, one of the goals of modern gasoline engine technology is to improve the performance of partial load, hoping to meet the high power at the same time, to ensure the power and economy of low speed, small and medium load, to avoid torque trough. If a variable intake system is added to the engine, according to the different requirements of intake forms under different working conditions, more intake at high load, low intake eddy current intensity, less intake at low load, and high intake eddy current intensity, different working conditions of high and low load can be taken into account. For this reason, many studies on variable intake technology have been carried out.

Engine variable valve technology

In simple terms: The variable valve timing system consists of a solenoid valve (OCV) and a variable camshaft phase regulator (VCT), which adjusts the engine CAM phase to allow air intake to vary with engine speed for optimal combustion efficiency and improved fuel economy.

Application of engine variable valve technology

We often see VT-I, i-VTEC, VVL, VVTL-i and other signs, are the use of engine variable valve technology, from the category can be divided into variable valve timing and variable valve stroke two categories. Adopt variable valve timing technology, such as Toyota VT-I engine, adopt variable valve stroke, such as Honda VTEC, the engine matches both variable valve timing and variable valve stroke, such as Toyota VVTL-i, Honda i-VTEC.
